National Health Institute (INS) head Omar Trujillo on Sunday confirmed that Peru registers seven coronavirus (COVID-19) cases to date, five of which are related to the so-called 'patient zero' and the other to a citizen residing in the southern city of Arequipa.

However, he did not give further details on the seventh case.

At a press conference, Trujillo said that 250 tests have been processed to date and that the INS is working 24 hours a day, performing at least 50 daily tests.

The official emphasized that the INS is the only entity that performs the confirmatory analysis of this disease.

For his part, Strategic Interventions in Public Health Director-General Angel Gonzales informed —that on March 16— the 2020 influenza vaccine should arrive in the country.

He also noted it is important that vulnerable people be immunized.
