Peruvian tennis player Lucciana Perez Alarcon lost 0-2 to Russian Alina Korneeva —winner of the past Australian Junior Open— and could not prevail in the grand final of the Roland Garros Junior tournament in Paris.

Perez Alarcon lost the highly-contested first set (7-6).

In the second set, she lost 6-3 to the very talented Russian player.

Perez Alarcon is the first Peruvian player to reach this type of final, following in the footsteps of Jaime Ygaza —a junior finalist in Paris back in 1985— and Luis Horna —who did so in 1997.

Besides, the Peruvian athlete has become the first South American junior finalist in Paris since Colombian Marina Duque in 2007.

She also aspires to become the first winner of said tournament since Paraguayan Rossana de los Rios in 1992.

Perez Alarcon holds the
ninth place in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) ranking.
She is expected to rise in said ranking following her outstanding participation at Roland Garros Junior.

Her rival, Alina Korneeva, is ranked third, according to the ITF.

18-year-old Lucciana Perez Alarcon had started playing tennis at age 4 at the suggestion of her grandfather.
