OECD accession process, an opportunity for Peru to have reform agenda

12:04 | Lima, Sep. 7.

The process of accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an opportunity for Peru to have a reform agenda, OECD Deputy Secretary General Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen affirmed.

He remarked that the OECD is a prestige for democracy, for defense, for the growth of the country and the planet.

Likewise, Knudsen pointed out that the OECD has different missions that are aimed at improving countries and cities.

Moreover, he underlined that said process is a unique opportunity for Peru to have a reform agenda.

His remarks were made on Tuesday at the event "Peru's process of accession to the OECD: Challenges and opportunities" organized by the School of Public Management at Lima-based Universidad del Pacifico.

The OECD official noted that the accession process is not an evaluation of Peru, but should be considered as a dialogue process to implement reforms that will allow the country to have more effective public policies.

Furthermore, he argued that such process will not be easy and that Peru must undertake it with commitment and humility, noting that the process itself generates great benefits for the country because it allows the implementation of reforms that are important to improve the quality of its public policies.

Ulrik Knudsen gave a conference entitled "The accession process as a benefit for the country" within the framework of the official mission to launch Peru's process of accession to the OECD.

At the conference, he stressed the importance of coordination among the Government, academia, and civil society in order to achieve long-term reforms.
