Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Saturday urged Peruvians to go to the polls on Sunday, April 11, in order to elect the country's ruler for the next five years.

According to the Head of State, the Government is committed to holding fair, transparent, and safe elections, under strict neutrality, and such commitment is being fulfilled.

In addition, he noted that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) have coordinated safety protocols to avoid COVID-19 infections.

In this sense, the statesman emphasized that the number of polling stations has been increased and that a staggered schedule —based on the last digit of the voters' ID— has been suggested.

"We will hold fair, safe, and transparent elections that will reflect the popular will (...). I urge all voting-age citizens to go to the polls to choose their preferred candidates," Mr. Sagasti expressed.

"The future of the country depends on the decisions taken on April 11," he added.

Remarks were made on Saturday morning as he supervised the COVID-19 vaccination of members of the Peruvian General Volunteer Firefighters Department.

The activity took place at the Garibaldi Volunteer Fire Company headquarters in Callao.
