The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Tuesday affirmed that 3,260,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered as part of the vaccination program and that the immunization rate will increase as more doses become available.

This time, the Head of State delivered a batch of more than 100,000 Pfizer vaccine doses to La Libertad region and an oxygen plant for the Regional Hospital of Trujillo.

He said that the 3,260,000 doses have been administered to healthcare workers, members of the Armed Forces, the National Police, firefighters, elderly people, as well as people with congenital and degenerative diseases.

"We will increase the range of people eligible to receive the vaccine little by little, as more doses arrive in the country. We will vaccinate those aged 65 (and older) and will then move to the 60-plus age group, as soon as more vaccines become available," the statesman pointed out.

According to the President, in the coming days, the country will receive one million Sinopharm vaccines, more than one million additional doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX Facility, and a significant amount of Pfizer vaccine doses.

He reiterated that his Government has secured 61 million doses to vaccinate all citizens of legal age before the end of this year, which requires an additional effort from the national government and regional authorities.

Mr. Sagasti called on the population to accompany the elderly to the vaccination sites, adding that the vaccines available in Peru are highly effective. Besides, they have been ratified by the World Health Organization (WHO) and approved by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

"All vaccines must be used as soon as possible, in order to reduce the risk of contagion, hospitalization, and —God forbid— death. La Libertad is an example of how to increase the logistical capacity," he pointed out.
