The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday highlighted the meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro, held at the Government Palace within the framework of the 52nd OAS General Assembly, which is set to take place in Lima between October 5 and 7.

"I appreciate the willingness and interest of the OAS to listen and discuss joint solutions in order to face crisis situations affecting food security in the country and other parts of the world,” the Head of State said after the meeting.

“We have agreed to strongly promote agriculture, further development, democracy, as well as human rights in Peru and the entire region," he added.

During the meeting, the top dignitary was accompanied by a delegation made up of Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa, Education Minister Rosendo Serna, and Agrarian Development-Irrigation Minister Jenny Ocampo Escalante, among others.

Almagro highlighted Peru's agricultural capacities to face crises. On the other hand, in statements to the press, he said that the dialogue with President Pedro Castillo focused on priority issues of his Government and the region, including food security and the creation of spaces for dialogue in order to strengthen democracy.

"We spoke with President Castillo, and he has been very clear about working in spaces for inter-institutional dialogue, for dialogue with civil society, and with the business sector," he underlined.

On the other hand, the OAS Secretary General considered that Peru can deal with the crisis within the country and the Hemisphere using its knowledge and agricultural capacities.

“Peru has the capacity to face this situation thanks to the knowledge of its small farmers, entrepreneurs, technicians, and experts,” he said.
