The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday affirmed that defending democracy implies guaranteeing the well-being and rights of Peruvian families.

In a meeting with Ashaninka leaders, he remarked that defending democracy also means recognizing equal opportunities and conditions for native communities, indigenous peoples, farming community patrols, self-defense committees, the National Police, and the Armed Forces.

The dignitary noted that it is necessary to understand that politics is not only for those at the top, but for the people as a whole.

"Services and constitutional rights must be for the people; they have to be for everyone," he expressed.

"Defending democracy means having open participation and not leaving anyone behind, a space where everyone must exercise their voice and vote, because the country's resources belong to all Peruvians and, if so, they should be well invested," Mr. Castillo added.

The President emphasized that the Government has to defend democracy by meeting the demands of the population in terms of education, health, basic services, roads, food, rights, and social welfare.

He also urged Prime Minister Anibal Torres to keep the doors of the ministries open to social organizations.

"We do not look at Peru with indifference, we do not look on the skin color or economic status," the top official said as he advocated the development of the population, working in unity.
