The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Sunday evening called on legislators to reflect on the reconsideration of the bill to approve early elections on Monday.

"Legislators were debating the advancement of elections to 2023 and, as we already know, it was a sterile debate that did not lead to anything concrete, except for the reconsideration that will be debated tomorrow and that we hope it will deserve a second reflection given the seriousness of the situation," she said in a televised Address to the Nation.

The Head of State stressed that this vacuum is unacceptable in Peru, since authorities representing the State have a duty to protect all Peruvians, safeguarding the security of the country, as well as ensuring tranquility and social peace.

In this regard, the dignitary affirmed that the responsibility of approving the advancement of elections for 2023 depends solely and exclusively on the Congress of the Republic.

"Tomorrow, they (legislators) have the opportunity to gain the trust of citizens, meeting this long-awaited demand of the Peruvian people," the country's top official remarked.

"Vote for Peru in favor of the country, to bring general elections forward to 2023, and let us tell all Peruvians —with the highest level of responsibility— that we are all leaving," she added.

Moreover, the President lamented that the country has been involved in a escalation of violence in recent days, which has harmed all Peruvians, mainly the most disadvantaged populations across the national territory.

"We were able to appreciate —with indignation— that our National Police has been attacked at close range by an organized group of individuals who want to create chaos and hatred among Peruvians," she said, referring to the protests that have been taking place in various regions across the country.
