Joined by female leaders from various indigenous peoples, President Dina Boluarte on Tuesday announced that more than S/4 billion (over US$1.086 billion) will be allocated for social programs, such as Vaso de Leche (Glass of Milk), Comedores Populares (Soup Kitchens), and Contigo (With You), which benefit Peru's indigenous women and vulnerable sectors.

At this event, the top official announced that S/250 million (about US$67.94 million) will be allocated for the Haku Wiñay/Noa Jayata program, which strengthens the productive capacity of households in poverty, plus S/28 million (about US$7.60 million) for business plans by rural and indigenous women.

During the ceremony, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that she is a proud representative of the Quechua and Chanka people.

Similarly, the Head of State underscored that indigenous women are heirs to ancestral traditions and knowledge, work the land, protect forests, as well as preserve our culture and native languages.

"Women leaders bravely assume the challenges and problems faced by Peru (...) We will always walk with our hearts full for being women fighters, on that path we will always stand united," she expressed.

As part of this commemoration, certificates were handed over to participants of the 19th Course for Interpreters and Translators of Indigenous or Original Languages, aimed for the first time at women.

Besides, recognition as a Meritorious Personality of Culture was granted to Tali Sabio Piuk, leader of the Awajun people.

Within this framework, Mrs. Boluarte announced that library written production will be prepared in 43 native languages to be distributed among more than 419,000 students by the end of the year.

She added that the National Registry of Indigenous or Original Languages will be implemented with Andean and Amazonian languages in December.
