President Castillo leads ceremony marking Bicentennial of Peruvian Navy

10:38 | Lima, Oct. 8.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday presided over a ceremony commemorating the Bicentennial of the Peruvian Navy and the 142nd anniversary of the Naval Battle of Angamos.

The event, which took place at Plaza Grau Square in Callao, began with a minute of silence in honor of the officers who died in service during the Battle of Angamos on 8 October 1879.

The ceremony's objective was to recall the civic, military, and humanitarian values of Rear-Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario, the Navy's leading figure and national hero who died defending the country during the above-mentioned naval battle.

The bravery and love for his homeland shown in difficult times in our history currently motivate Peruvian Navy members to do their best in the fight that the State and Peruvian people face against the COVID-19 pandemic.
