The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday called on authorities and the population to work together in order to build a culture of prevention so as to counteract natural disasters in the country, noting the importance of protecting the lives of Peruvians.
The remarks were made during his participation in the first forum "Challenges of disaster risk management in Peru, to achieve an inclusive and better prepared country," held within the framework of the 35th anniversary of the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci).
In his speech, the Head of State expressed the Government's commitment to support the strengthening of prevention policies.
"Civil Defense is everyone's task," he stated.
The dignitary extended greetings to Indeci for completing 35 years of existence.
Moreover, he highlighted Inceci's work in practice drills, its service to save lives, and the development of a culture of prevention. Besides, Mr. Castillo highlighted the commitment of its members.
The top official emphasized that the Peruvian territory is subject to the occurrence of natural phenomena such as earthquakes, floods, and frosts, but today a response is provided by the society as a whole.
According to the President, Peru has been taking significant steps in risk management since the creation of the national risk management system in 2011.
Said system empowered Indeci to assume its role as a regulatory technical entity in the processes of preparation, response and recovery from disasters.
