The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday announced that the Government is working to provide adequate sports infrastructure to youth in the country's regions so that they can train under equal conditions in order to win more medals for Peru.

Mrs. Boluarte participated in the recognition ceremony for medalists of the 2024 Bolivarian Youth Games.

"The Government works on the objective of providing adequate sports infrastructure to young people in regions (for them) to train and have equal opportunities as in the capital," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

"We are sure that the name of Peru will be raised high in these competitions and in all the ones it will take part," she added.

As an example, the top official mentioned World Athletics Race Walking champion, Kimberly García, born in the Peruvian city of Huancayo, Junin region.

According to the president, Garcia might win a gold medal at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

"In Lima, we have an ideal sports infrastructure, (meaning) the National Stadium, the National Sports Village (Videna), the Villa El Salvador Sports Center, and the Andres Avelino Caceres Sports Complex in Villa María del Triunfo; these are favorable settings for training elite athletes in every discipline. Yet we have to work at the national level," she said.

The Head of State reminded athletes that in Peru's provinces and regions there are people and students who can become elite athletes and medalists. However, many of them cannot travel to Lima. Thus, the possibility is that the Government reaches out to them through the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD).

"There are the tremendous students from those school olympics; thus, we have to go motivate schools, but not only motivate them, we also need to provide them with the necessary infrastructure so that these minors can become medalists at the national and international level," she expressed.

The president indicated that the Peruvian State has the obligation to support athletes who are preparing to compete representing Peru.

"And this Government is committed to that task, young athletes. We stand by you," she stated.

In that sense, Mrs. Boluarte promised that, through the Education Ministry, young athletes will be able to access the Beca 18 (scholarship) program so that they can pursue a professional career.

Today's event was held at the National Stadium in Lima.
