Pope Francis on Sunday greeted a group of Peruvians who gathered at Saint Peter's Square to pray the Angelus.

The Holy Father was greeting the faithful of Rome and pilgrims from different countries when he noticed the presence of Peruvian nationals, noting that the South American country has a new president.

"I see some Peruvian flags and I greet you, Peruvians, who have a new President. May the Lord bless your country always," he was quoted as saying by the Vatican's official website.

"I wish you all a good Sunday and a peaceful month of August... Too hot, but may it be peaceful! Please do not forget to pray for me. Have a good lunch and goodbye," he added.

His comments were made after he prayed the Angelus at St. Peter Square in the Vatican City on Sunday.
