Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos on Thursday announced that 16,500 Peruvian citizens have been repatriated since the closure of borders and suspension of international flights imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru.
In his speech on the pillars of politics, government management and COVID-19, before Congress, Zeballos said that 3,000 compatriots are expected to be repatriated this week.

Peruvians have been repatriated since March 15 mostly from the United States, as well as from countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania," the Prime Minister reported.
"Additionally, a special operation was carried out on May 23 to bring 1,500 Peruvians from Arica (Chile) to Tacna by land," he added.
The high-ranking official emphasized that all the compatriots who returned on humanitarian flights were put in quarantine for 15 days.
In this sense, the Cabinet chief stated that arrangements are being made to repatriate 14,000 Peruvians thru the end of July, with the first group of 3,000 arriving in May, 5,000 in June, and the remaining 6,000 in July.

President of the Council of Ministers arrived at Congress joined by Cabinet members to report on the actions of the Executive Branch and present the government's general policy.
