Peruvian wins full scholarship to pursue doctorate in U.S.

Jermani Ojeda has obtained a scholarship for a doctoral program in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures in the University of Texas at Austin (U.S.) from August 2019 thru August 2024.

The 32-year-old was born in Andean Carhuasi district (Apurimac region) but moved to Cusco in order to study communication sciences at San Antonio Abad University

In 2009, the Embassy of the United States selected Ojeda for the Study of the United States Institute (SUSI) for Higher Education Students Program in Tucson, Arizona. He was also granted a scholarship to study English at the North American-Peruvian Cultural Institute (ICPNA) based in the Peruvian Imperial City

Last year, Peru-based Fulbright Commission granted him a fellowship for the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program in the University of Delaware (U.S.) in order to teach Quechua and Peruvian culture to American students for 9 months. 

The Fulbright Commission offers grants for qualified Peruvian graduate students to study in the United States.
