Sofia Luna, an anthropology student at Lima-based San Marcos University (UNMSM), has won the Best Delegate Award for her outstanding participation at
Harvard National Model United Nations Latin America (HNMUN-LA) 2022, a conference organized by
Harvard University.
At only 18 years old, the young student participated representing the President of the Republic of Guatemala in the
Committee on the Esquipulas Accords of 1987, a debate that is modeled after the plenary sessions of the United Nations and which took place between June 1 and 5.
"It was a very competitive and top-tier conference. Issues of disarmament and international security in the face of the armed conflicts that were taking place in Central America at that time were discussed in the Committee where I was," the young student said, quite satisfied with her participation at HNMUN-LA held in Panama City.
Organized by Harvard University, the conference brought together outstanding students from various Latin American universities.
After her successful participation in the competition, Luna invited San Marcos University students to be part of Peruvian Universities, a debate team that she is part of and which enabled her to have this enriching personal and academic experience.
