Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has affirmed that exports by Peruvian SMEs expanded 122% over the last 15 years.

During the panel titled "2021 SMEs Panel Working for an exporting Peru," Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) Head Edgar Vasquez, PromPeru Executive-President Luis Torres, and representatives of institutions dedicated to foreign trade carried out an analysis, especially on what has been achieved by small- and medium-sized exporting companies in the aforementioned period.

In 2004, Mincetur established the Exporter's Day in recognition of all those men and women of the sector who contributed to exceeding the goal of US$10 billion in exports —a record figure at that time.

"Last year, we registered a milestone in the history of our exports: Peru exceeded US$47 billion in shipments. During 15 years, we have quadrupled the value of exports thanks to the efforts made by the entire exporting force in the country," Minister Vasquez expressed.

For his part, PromPeru Executive-President Luis Torres recalled that —in 2004, year in which the Exporter's Day was established— shipments by Peruvian SMEs had reached a value of US$1.905 billion.

"If we compare that total amount with what was achieved in 2018, around US$4.235 billion, we can affirm that the value of SMEs' exports has grown 122% over the last 15 years, an achievement that would not have been possible without the articulated and constant efforts of Mincetur, PromPeru, and the private sector," he remarked.

During the event, it was also revealed that —until August 2019— the Inca country boosted the exports development of 2753 Peruvian SMEs, whose shipped value reached US$3.622 billion.

PromPeru —through actions aimed at promoting exports— seeks to recognize each of the actors that enhance and develop the sector's value chain which —year after year— enrich Peru's exports culture.

The event was part of the commemorative activities for the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Exporter's Day celebrated on November 9.
