Antonio Cisneros, one of the most important Peruvian poets of the last fifty years, died on Saturday 6 at age 69.
Cisneros Compoy, who belonged to the Generation of 60's, died after a battle with lung cancer.

During his long career, Cisneros was awarded the Casa de las Americas Poetry Prize, Jose Donoso Prize, and Pablo Neruda Poetry Prize, among others.

Among his major works are the "Comentarios reales de Antonio Cisneros" published in 1964, "Canto ceremonial contra un oso hormiguero" (1968), and “Los viajes del buen salvaje” (2008).

The Peruvian poet studied literature at the National University of San Marcos, later he undertook a PhD at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
