Peru's Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Tuesday affirmed that the Government has resolved a number of social conflicts through dialogue in different parts of the country.

"Regarding conflicts, I think we all agree that we have to resolve them through dialogue, and we are permanently solving a series of conflicts through this mechanism," he said during a meeting with parliamentarian spokespersons at Congress.

The Cabinet chief affirmed that the Government has been resolving these problems in the mining corridor and the conflicts that have remained unresolved for months, such as those in Toquepala and Bloc 95.

Moreover, the Prime Minister found that the Executive Branch and Congress must work together for the country.

"The differences are political, which instead of uniting us in order to work together, divide us," the high-ranking official stated.

"We have to make every effort to be united, both Congress and the Executive Branch; we need one another for the country," he added.

State of Emergency

Mr. Torres explained that the Government approved the declaration of the State of Emergency because, according to intelligence reports, looting, robbery and confrontations were going to take place in Lima and Callao, in order to seek the resignation of President Pedro Castillo.

"The Executive Branch's decision on the State of Emergency did not come out of nowhere, but was based on data we obtained on the possibility of social unrest, robbery, looting, vandalism, business closure, and violent confrontations with the police, as well as shortages, which may result in a request for a presidential impeachment," he added.
