Peruvian jewelry exports in the first two months of the year totaled US$35 million 649,000, a figure that represents a 65.6% growth compared to the same period in 2024 (US$21 million 516,000), reported the Manufacturing Department of the Association of Exporters (Adex).
Other destinations for Peruvian jewelry exports were Mexico (US$1 million 782,000), Spain (US$472,965), Canada (US$302,530), Chile (US$246,464), among others.
Jewelry items made from other precious metals, primarily gold (US$34,022,000), were the most significant, with a positive growth of 70.9% and a share exceeding 95.4%.
Other items included other base metal costume jewelry (US$534,557), precious or semiprecious stone articles (US$436,417), silver jewelry, whether or not coated or plated with other precious metals (US$374,426), other costume jewelry (US$265,674), precious metal-plated articles (US$8,919), and silver jewelry (US$6,500).
10% Tariffs
On the other hand, they noted that there is concern in the Peruvian jewelry export sector following the recent application of 10% tariffs in the United States.
Following the increase in tariffs, major US buyers put their orders on hold and, in some cases, canceled them.
"We will support the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism in its efforts to reinstate the 0% tariff and find solutions to this difficult situation," said Rocío Mantilla Goyzueta, president of the Jewelry and Goldsmithing Committee of the Association of Exporters (Adex).
