An electronic nose, a hand-held ventilator for emergency patients, and an electronic device for people with hand amputations have been recognized at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in Switzerland.
The event took place from March 10 to 14, and was held virtually due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to participate in the largest exhibition of patented inventions in the world, researchers at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) and the National Engineering University (UNI) sent videos, images, and descriptions of such inventions.
This time, the assessment was more complex and definitive since creators were not able to interact with the jury, answer questions, and clear up points that have not been understood, as is often the case in face-to-face editions.
Electronic nose
This invention —recipient of a gold medal— uses zeolite-coated sensors to analyze volatile compounds that have an impact on quality results of alcoholic beverages, such as wine and pisco.
The aim of this invention is to verify the Peruvian pisco designation of origin and differentiate adulterated pisco from well-known brands.
Hand-held ventilator
The hand-held volumetric ventilator —for the care of critical patients in ambulances and of those requiring emergency transfers to health facilities— was awarded a silver medal.
This invention has been developed to meet the need of an easy-to-use and low-cost product for the hand-held supply of air and/or oxygen at health centers, ambulances, intensive care units, etc.
Electronic device for hand amputations
Finally, the electronic device for people with hand amputations won silver medal, too.
This device was developed to improve the control of the force applied by a person using an upper limb prosthesis.
