Peruvian economy up 1.45% in Jan-May 2019

Peru's GDP expanded 0.63% in May 2019, thus registering 118 months of continuous growth, The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed Monday.

In this sense, Peruvian economy grew 1.45% in the first five months of 2019.

"The month's result was underpinned by the positive evolution of household consumption, as it registered higher retail sales (2.50%) and an increase in consumer loans (10.62%)," it expressed. 

According to the National Production Technical Report, the economy posted a rise of 2.60% in the last 12-month period (June 2018 — May 2019). 

Sectors 

May 2019's outcome was fueled by the following sectors: telecommunications; trade; accommodation and restaurants; services provided to companies; farming; transport, storage, and communications, as well as electricity and water.

However, the spheres: manufacturing; fishery; mining and hydrocarbons; and construction registered decreases.
