Peruvian candidate for OAS Secretary-General starts Caribbean tour

Peru's candidate for the Organization of American States (OAS) Secretariat-General Ambassador Hugo de Zela has started touring several countries in the Caribbean, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has reported.

In Guyana, the envoy met with Colin Granderson, Assistant Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), with whom he coincided on several topics.

Likewise, the diplomat held important meetings with Guyanese Foreign Affairs Minister Karen Cummings and Vice Chancellor Carl Greenidge.

The Peruvian candidacy has the objective of contributing to the strengthening of the continental organization as a space for dialogue to generate consensus.

Also, it aims to support in the process of finding effective solutions to the main conflicts that affect the hemisphere.

Elections for the office of OAS Secretary-General will be held on March 20, 2020.
