Peru's President Ollanta Humala arrived on Tuesday night in the Canadian capital Ottawa for paying an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties between the two nations, it has been reported.
According to the Government Palace's press secretary, the Peruvian leader flocked at 22:40 (Canada's hour) the Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa.
Upon his arrival at the airport, Humala was received by the Canadian ambassador to Peru, Patricia Fortier; the Peruvian ambassador to Canada, Jose Antonio Bellina; and by senior representatives of the host country.
The head of Peru's administration is visiting the North American nation for four days from April 9th to April 11th upon invitation of the Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.
As part of the official agenda, President Humala was welcomed Wednesday morning by the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston at an official welcoming ceremony at the Rideau Hall.
Following, the two leaders held a meeting at the "Large Drawing Room", where they addressed key issues concerning both countries such as education, science and technology.
At night, Humala and his delegation including First Lady, Nadine Heredia, are due to attend a State dinner hosted by Canada's Governor General and his wife, Mrs. Sharon Johnston at the Rideau Hall..
On Thrusday, President Humala is set to meet with Jean Lebel, president of the "International Development Research Centre" (IDRC ). Later, he will take part a ceremonial tree planting on the ground of Rideau Hall.
Next, Humala will hold a one-on-one meeting with the country’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. Talks will include intensifying bilateral cooperation in fields such as defense, education, science and technology.
Hours later, President Humala will head to the Canadian Council of the Americas (CCA) where he will be awarded the Statesman of the Year for 2013.
On the last day of his official visit, President Humala is scheduled to pay a protocol visit to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, David C. Onley, representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
