Airlines in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and South Africa have expressed interest in flying to Peru, attracted by its tourism potential and strategic location in the region, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) has said.

Carlos Canales, head of Canatur, revealed that these carriers are Qatar Airways, South African Airways, Etihad Airways and Emirates Airlines.

He also announced that Turkish Airlines will start flying to Peru in May 2014, following the signing of a mutual visa waiver agreement and an air service pact between the countries.

Canales noted that Turkey is one the world's largest source of tourists with seven million travelers.

"If we can attract at least one percent of Turkish tourists, we would receive 70,000 visitors. At present, less than 5,000 Turkish tourists arrive in Peru," he said.
