Peru's top tourist attractions captivate European market

14:37 | Helsinki (Finland), Jan. 27.

Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has participated in MATKA Nordic Travel Fair —the largest travel fair in the Nordic countries, held in Finland— with the aim of bringing Peru closer to new markets.

PromPeru's participation was made possible by its office in the Netherlands, in coordination with the Peruvian Embassy in Finland and the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur).

The current edition brought together more than 71,000 consumers and 15,290 travel industry professionals.

"Our presence at Matka responds to the international promotion strategy that we are working on in order to boost the marketing of Peru as a tourist destination in coordination with the private sector, through the exploration of new markets such as the Nordic countries," PromPeru Executive-President Luis Torres stressed.

During the event, domestic companies held a total of 1,287 business meetings.

Likewise, there were seminars —about Peru's principal destinations— aimed at companies, tourism professionals, and end consumers.

Finnish market

Finnish people —who have a good purchasing power and 30 working days of paid holidays— travel abroad on a regular basis. Besides, the low temperatures they experience in winter become another factor that motivates them to travel frequently.

According to the Finnish Travel study, Finns made 8.2 million trips abroad in 2018.

In addition, tourists in Peru are expected to stay for at least 14 days in the country.

It must be noted that Matka attracts more than 1,000 exhibitors from 90 countries including travel agencies, airlines, and state tourism offices, among other members of the sector.
