Leading tour operators from across Peru are receiving a new awareness-raising campaign on the hot spots of the south-eastern Puno region with the aim of connecting travelers with this area’s unique destinations, it was reported Tuesday.

The event, taking place in the neighboring region of Arequipa, intents to promote Puno’s most coveted tourist destinations in potential markets along the national territory as well as to strength domestic tourism and increase the average length of stay for visitors in the altiplano (high plain) area.

Upcoming editions of the ongoing seminar, organized by Puno’s regional directorate of foreign trade and tourism, will be held in the regions of Cusco and Trujillo framed within initiatives to promote domestic tourism by the nation’s export and tourism promotion board (Promperu).

Among the new favored tourism circuits which are showcased at the conference, due to wrap up on Sep. 18, include the chain of highlands known as the Cordillera of the Andes, located along Peru’s south-central area, the Bahuaja-Sonene national park, and the Peruvian side of the Lake Titicaca.

“Within the area of the Cordillera route, mayor tour operators will be able to guide travelers throughout Peru’s largest forest of Puyas de Raymondi, the Tinajani rock forest and the Pucca Pucara archeological park,” said Manuel Quiñonez, head of Puno’s regional directorate.
