Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Friday affirmed that the Chavimochic (Stage III) Special Project is a reality verifiable with deeds and not just words.

"We are going to coin that phrase borrowed from Ayacucho (region) to say it here, Mr. Governor (Cesar Acuña): Chavimochic is a reality, deeds not words," Otarola expressed during his participation in the signing of the addendum that will allow the execution of the irrigation project's main channel.

"It means an enormous satisfaction to attend today the (ceremony marking the) signing of this agreement for the execution of the Chavimochic Special Project's main channel and the promotion of the international call for the project-awarding process in its third stage, thus meaning the dam," he added.

During his speech, the Cabinet chief affirmed that said project, which was presented as part of President Boluarte's Government General Policy at a Congress plenary session, "is one of the proofs that the Cabinet is cohesive."

"They will be under the watchful eye of the Executive Branch and the Comptroller's Office, which will exercise concurrent and permanent control to deter any illegal act in public resources management, this both at the level of the Central State and later of the irrigation channel (public) works," he asserted.

The high-ranking official said the Executive Branch seeks to carry out all possible actions to unlock large-scale public works, such as Chavimochic, and achieve their execution in favor of all citizens' well-being.

Otarola pointed out that, in compliance with the Government General Policy, the execution of said public work will have a concurrent control by both the Executive Branch and the Comptroller General's Office to prevent illegal acts.

"The execution of the two management instruments of the Chavimochic III Project relies on very clear and decisive anti-corruption clauses," he indicated.

Regarding the project, the prime minister pointed out that Chavimochic III, as one of the seven emblematic projects sought to be unlocked, is of great importance "for national development, agro-exports, and for improving the well-being of society here in La Libertad (region)."

In addition, he reported that said project —which was defined in 1983— will cover "the coastal area of the provinces of Viru, Trujillo, and Ascope in (Peru's northern) La Libertad region, from the Santa River to the Urricape Pampas."

Otarola affirmed that, "at the end and full development of the project, approximately 144,000 hectares will be supplied, including new and to-be-improved ones."

This will allow the generation of new jobs, as well as the production of a gross value of US$1.2 billion in profits.
