Peru's Prime Minister Guido Bellido on Monday arrived in Cusco region to meet with peasant communities and address the socio-environmental conflict over the southern mining corridor.

The Cabinet chief is expected to meet with peasant communities, which have gone on a strike —since July 23— due to a resolution issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), which declared communal roads in populated centers of Chumbivilcas Province as national roads in Cusco region.

The strikers protest against the environmental pollution caused by MMG Las Bambas trucks passing through the area every day and warn that they were not consulted about said MTC regulation.

For this reason, they have blocked the entrance to the southern mining corridor.

Shortly before his departure, Bellido posted on social media that everything about his trip was in order.

Precisely the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) reported that a PCM high-level commission and members of the Congress of the Republic will arrive today in said region.
