The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo will exercise his duties from the Lima-based Government Palace until the most suitable place for the location of the Presidential Office is found.

This was announced in a statement released on Sunday by the Secretariat of Strategic Communication and Press of the Presidential Office.

Last Wednesday, during his inauguration, the Head of State announced that he will not rule from Lima's presidential palace, noting that he would cede it to the future Ministry of Cultures for it to be used as a museum that shows the national history from its origins.

"We have to break up with the colonial symbols to end the ties of domination that have been in force for so many years," he expressed at that time.

The Government Palace is the seat of the Executive Branch and is also known as the Casa de Pizarro (Conqueror Francisco Pizarro's Home).

On the other hand, the statement notes that the top official reiterates his call on all Peruvians of good will to put aside ideological differences, political positions, and personal interests.

"He has asked them to do so with the sole purpose of working for unity and development in Peru," the communique reads.
