The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday led the ceremony "Inti Raymi of the Bicentennial. The festival of the Sun that shines for the world," noting that his administration will leave a country in better conditions to move forward for the next government.

"We have done our utmost to leave a better country than the one we found at the beginning of our government for whoever takes the reins of the Nation, in the first years of the third century of our independence," he affirmed.

In addition, the Head of State expressed joy for participating in the Inti Raymi festival at Sacsayhuaman in Cusco and mentioned that this place symbolizes the greatness of the Inca Empire. He also stressed the importance of the great Inca Road System Qhapaq Ñan.

"This impressive road project, as well as other magnificent hydraulic and agricultural structures of its time, are used by our population and our brothers from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador," he highlighted.

"I thank the presidents from friendly nations and the Ibero-American General Secretariat for joining this Cusco's jubilee month celebration," Mr. Sagasti said.

Moreover, he noted that the Inti Raymi festival provides a good opportunity to remind Peruvians of the cultural diversity found in the country.

"Thanks to this diversity —spread throughout our wonderful territory— which is part of who we are as people and as a nation, we continue to forge and strengthen our pluralistic and integrated identity, which is always in expanding, evolving, and changing," he remarked.

Furthermore, he said Peruvians should embark on this new stage in a united manner, respecting one another’s differences, rescuing ancestral knowledge, and using advances in modern science and technology.
