Peru's President: We must build a more just and equitable country

13:37 | Lima, Oct. 8.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday affirmed that his Government is focused on building a more just and equitable country, with an improved economy, offering more opportunities for men and women, with a strengthened health system, and where there is no shortage of COVID-19 vaccines.

In his speech at the ceremony marking the Bicentennial of the Peruvian Navy and the 142nd anniversary of the Naval Battle of Angamos, the Head of State highlighted the social role of this arm in favor of the most vulnerable people in the country.

In the context of the country's Bicentennial year, the President remembered and paid tribute to the Peruvian Navy for its participation in the Independence deed, in which it played the leading role to recover the sea, which was under Spanish rule.

Moreover, he noted that the Peruvian Navy is present all over the national territory, ensuring the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is fundamental for national development.

"The members of the Navy —who gave their lives in service to the country— have contributed to the national peace process in the fight against terrorism and maintain a frontal fight against drug trafficking, as well as illegal mining and fishing. Therefore, I express my eternal appreciation (to them)," the top official remarked.

Social Action

In addition, he said, the Navy has adopted a new institutional approach through a sustainable social action strategy since 2012, using the itinerant social action platforms built by the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA), which helped consolidate the State's presence in the country.

Furthermore, it took on new challenges and roles, such as its participation in response to natural disasters, through its BAP Tacna and BAP Pisco vessels built at naval shipyards.
