Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Monday affirmed that the most important legacy of his administration will be to demonstrate that governing differently, with transparency and openness, without corruption, as well as working in coordination with regional and local governments, the private sector, and civil society —for the benefit of the population— is possible.

Speaking from Jaen (Cajamarca region), where he paid a working visit joined by Education Minister Ricardo Cuenca, Mr. Sagasti reiterated his call for citizens to maintain serenity, calm, and order at this juncture.

He remarked that the Transition and Emergency Government has scrupulously respected the independence of electoral bodies.

Additionally, he emphasized that international election observation missions have confirmed that the electoral process has run smoothly, fairly, and transparently.

"Building the Republic of Peru has taken us almost two hundred years, of course, with limitations and imperfections, but also with virtues and good decisions. We have held fair and unquestionable elections for several decades now," the statesman pointed out.

"And we know that many Peruvians have sacrificed to maintain this independence over the years," he added.

His remarks were made during his visit to Jaen, where he supervised the construction of the new campus at the National University of Jaen.

The President was accompanied by Cajamarca Region Governor Mesias Guevara, Congressman Hans Troyes, Education Minister Ricardo Cuenca, and the chairman of Jaen University's Organizing Committee Oscar Gamarra.
