The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Monday affirmed that it is important that the relationship between Congress and the Executive Branch —in the coming months and years— be as smooth as possible.

"In our case, we have had an excellent relationship with many lawmakers, although I must point out that some —a few of them— believe that their role is to attack the Executive Branch, by twisting our statements in many cases," the top official expressed.

Nevertheless, the Peruvian leader trusts that a climate of confidence and cooperation in priority areas will take place between the new authorities at Parliament and the Executive Branch.

In his opinion, every person leading a branch of government should think about the common good, have the vocation of service, and improve their working method while respecting the points of view and independence of each branch.

The top official claimed that his administration has worked in the best possible way toward the common good. Therefore, he noted that the government team's strength has been the vocation of service.

"We are here to serve and seek the common good. That is our purpose," he said, noting that he has worked until the last moment of his mandate without considering his job approval rating in surveys.

Regarding the transfer-of-power process, the Head of State referred to the difficulty entailed by a delay in the proclamation of election results. However, he affirmed that the administrative transition process has been completed as set out by the Comptroller's Office.

Sagasti's remarks were made on Monday during the last press conference given by the Transition and Emergency Government.
