14:45 | Lima, Jun. 21.

Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Monday affirmed that the use of science and technology across regions will deepen the decentralization process in order to reduce inequalities and create development opportunities.

His remarks were made at the launch of the 2021 Innovation Week, organized by the National Council for Science and Technological Innovation (Concytec).
During the event, the Head of State highlighted the presentation of innovation projects developed by regions of Arequipa and La Libertad.

"The creation and consolidation of regional systems is very important to deepen the decentralization process, reduce inequalities across regions, and create development opportunities using resources in each locality," he expressed.

Additionally, the President indicated that the 2021 Innovation Week became the country's most important event in the field during the last years.

Its schedule and format —he said— have changed and adapted to the situation of the new social, economic, and environmental context, both nationally and internationally.

Mr. Sagasti highlighted the participation of 48 public, private, and civil society institutions from Peru and abroad, which will showcase innovations to face challenges of improving quality of life, increasing productivity, caring for health, protecting the environment, and generating labor opportunities, both in the present and in the future.
