Peru's President reaffirms commitment to materialize La Calzada water project

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday pledged to carry out La Calzada water project in Lambayeque region in order to provide the population with drinking water and prevent floods, which affect farmers in this area of the country.

The Head of State held a meeting with the population of the district of Pacora in Lambayeque province, before establishing a roundtable. 

At the meeting, the top official reiterated the Government's willingness to promote said infrastructure project.

"I have the political will to make this dream come true and that is why we are here, not only to establish a roundtable because we have held talks for a long time, but also a working group with the aim of crystallizing what the people need, what that the people demand," he said.

Mr. Castillo remarked that La Calzada will contribute to the Government's goal of guaranteeing food security in the country, since it will ensure water resources for agricultural producers in the area.

"We have to guarantee food security for the Peruvian people, and it is farmers who provide the people with food. There is no agriculture without water, so we have to guarantee water through the major project at La Calzada," he expressed.

70 million cubic meters

La Calzada water project includes a 70 million cubic meter dam. It will provide access to water for agricultural producers and will prevent flooding in La Leche Valley.

In this context, the President reiterated the political will of his Government to promote the aforementioned project, thus allowing the development of agriculture and benefiting the Lambayeque people.
