The
President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday led a meeting with more than 30 district mayors from Piura region in order to make viable investment projects and actions to mitigate the effects of
El Niño phenomenon.
In light of this, a multisector plan has been established. It involves the participation of regional and local governments, so that they can implement preventive actions in coordination with the Ministerial Cabinet's sectors and in accordance with the budgets earmarked for such purpose.
According to information provided by the Regional Government of Piura, S/86 million (around US$22.8 million) has been allocated to the Chira-Piura Project, which will allow refurbishment works to be carried out in the streams of the Chira and Piura rivers.
Likewise, said money will serve to dredge the following drains: La Arena in the town of Chatito, Pajaritos in Veintiseis de Octubre, Sechura in Cura Mori, as well as Chato Chico, La Huaca, and on Dike ND 10.
Furthermore, works will be carried out on Dike ND 06 in Sullana, Canal Cieneguillo, Chutuque, Poechos, in the town of Chocan, and Drain Querecotillo in the town of La Margarita.
In addition, the amount allocated will be used to install underground pools in Las Dalias settlement, which will allow water to be pumped from Las Dalias to another pool in La Molina, so as to be diverted to drains and, thus, mitigate the damage from floods.
The meeting was attended by Ministers
Hania Perez de Cuellar (Housing, Construction and Sanitation) and
Raul Perez Reyes (Transportation and Communications), as well as legislators representing the region, among others.
