The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday affirmed that the Government promotes a fuel market with fair and affordable prices to benefit the entire population in the country.

In addition, he stated that Peru's state-owned Petroperu is committed to further developing important projects to increase the company's presence in the LPG market and thereby improve prices.

"As a Government we reaffirm our commitment to continue promoting a fuel market with fair and affordable prices. To that end, we launched the new policy on massive use of natural gas, so that this energy resource, which belongs to all Peruvians, can reach all households in the country," he said in his speech.

The Head of State affirmed that the Government's purpose is to have a fully strengthened company like Petroperu, which contributes to the development of the country, remaining a self-sustaining company that acts responsibly with full economic, financial, and administrative autonomy and without receiving funds from the State, as it has been the case until now.

"Without a doubt, 2022 will be a year of great challenges, a year to reaffirm Petroperu's successful return to oil production activities, and to put the new Talara refinery —the most important energy project in the country— into operation," the Head of State pointed out.

In this regard, he noted that the return of Petroperu to oil and natural gas production after 25 years —to operate Block I in Talara— is a fact of great importance for the state-owned company and for Peru.

Mr. Castillo pointed out that the new Talara refinery, which is also operated by Petroperu, will start producing 95,000 barrels of less polluting fuels per day to supply the national market and the most remote areas in the country, where the company plays a social role.

His remarks were made during the delivery ceremony of Block I in Talara and the restart of Petroperu's operations in the production of oil and natural gas in the Talara Basin situated in the northern region of Piura.
