The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday announced that he has arranged for the establishment of a working group to meet the main demands of Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) workers.

"You will be served nationwide, through your leaders, at the working group that will be established. We cannot meet every demand if we do not talk first," Mr. Castillo said from the Government Palace's Courtyard of Honor.

The Head of State indicated that the issue of the merger of EsSalud and the Health Ministry (Minsa) could be evaluated by said working group so as to achieve an efficient universalization of health insurance for Peruvians.

"The issue of mergers, of universalization, everything that you are mentioning, goes through making the claim effective at the working group. Right now, I am arranging for the Labor Minister (Alejandro Salas) to attend to you, listen to you, and resolve your demands," he said.

The dignitary affirmed that the Executive Branch will work to end health care discrimination of the insured and to guarantee that the rights of workers are not violated.

"This Government, which has been elected by the working class, cannot go behind the backs of workers (...) A government that was brought (to power) by you has to meet your demands," the top official remarked.

"The rights of men and women of this country cannot be modified. There is work to be done with you," he emphasized.
