The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday flew over the affected areas due to the spill of around 6,000 oil barrels in Lima's Ventanilla sea area.

On board a Peruvian Army helicopter, the Head of State was able to observe the magnitude of this ecological disaster, which occurred last weekend.

The top official saw the oil stain that extends along the coast of Ventanilla and that reached the Ancon area, where a negative impact on marine flora and fauna is registered.

On January 15, an oil spill was reported in Ventanilla district's sea area, as a result of the strong waves recorded along the Peruvian coast following the eruption of an underwater volcano off Tonga in Oceania.
