The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, led the handover of the operating license for the Chancay Port Terminal, officially marking the start of commercial operations at the megaport.

In this context, the Head of State highlighted that trade generated through this port terminal will contribute 1.8 percentage points to Peru's GDP—equivalent to US$4.5 billion—and will create 7,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.

"Chancay symbolizes what we can achieve as a country when we join forces—when the (Peruvian) State and private investment work together with responsibility, long-term vision, and commitment," Mrs. Boluarte said on Thursday.

"Today we celebrate the progress of a key infrastructure project for foreign trade; it is also important to highlight its direct impact on the lives of all Peruvians," she added.

During her visit to the terminal, the top official underscored that the use of this megaport reduces transport time to Asia from 35 to 25 days, lowering logistics costs and increasing the competitiveness of Peruvian products.

"Chancay will become a strategic hub within the Pacific trade network. In that sense, I invite our neighboring countries to use our Chancay Port so as to strengthen their trade with the Asian market," she expressed.

Afterward, the President emphasized that this major port project strengthens Peru's position as a reliable partner for investment, as it is a country with clear rules and legal stability that promotes and facilitates responsible private investment.

These factors -she stated- are recognized and valued internationally.

"The Port of Chancay marks the beginning of a new phase, where development is no longer just about numbers, but is translated into real benefits for our people. Chancay is proof that it is possible to build a fairer and more competitive country," Mrs. Boluarte pointed out.

Lastly, the Head of State said that her administration will continue to work with determination and without distractions, always focused on generating well-being for all Peruvians.

"As I have said before, and I will say it again: my government will not stop and will continue to make a reality of the projects that many previous governments failed to carry out," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

"We will keep working with optimism and determination until the last day of our administration, July 28, 2026; on that date, we will hand over a Peru that is much better than the one we received in December 2022," she concluded.

The President visited the Chancay Megaport facilities accompanied by Transportation and Communications Minister Cesar Sandoval, National Port Authority (APN) Chairman Juan Carlos Paz, and concessionaire company Cosco Shipping Ports General Manager Chen Lihui.
