Peru's President attends ceremony marking arrival of research vessel BAP Carrasco

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday participated in the ceremony marking the arrival of the oceanographic research vessel, BAP Carrasco, after it completed the 28th Scientific Expedition of Peru to Antarctica.

The event took place at Callao Naval Base, according to the Government Palace Press Secretariat.

The Head of State was accompanied by Defense Minister Jose Gavidia and military authorities.

On December 30, 2021, the BAP Carrasco set sail for Antarctica to embark on the 28th Scientific Expedition of Peru to the white continent.

The ship carried 98 expedition staff members, including scientists and soldiers, whose mission was to continue research projects in the fields of oceanography, science, and biology.

On Wednesday, Mr. Castillo attended an executive meeting with mayors from more than 400 municipalities across the country and State ministers at the Lima Convention Center.

Before the meeting, he visited the town of Retamas, located in Pataz province, La Libertad region, where he supervised the situation in the landslide-hit area and the care provided to the affected population.
