The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday affirmed that 2024 must be the year of the country's economic recovery, pointing out the Government's actions to achieve this objective.

The Head of State reported that the Government has launched an ambitious economic reactivation plan that entails an investment worth S/18 billion (about US$5.184 billion), through the Con Punche Peru (Peru with Strength) 1 and 2 plans.

The top official indicated that these initiatives include public procurement from micro and small enterprises (MSEs), preparedness for El Niño phenomenon, the fight against anemia, among others, in order to boost domestic demand, as well as promote the recovery of family, regional, and sectoral economy.

Besides, she said the Plan Unidos (United Plan) was launched. It features 25 complementary reactivation measures.

Likewise, the president indicated that "building a governability framework with legal stability and clear rules, as well as strengthening Peru's image as an investment destination" has been essential for implementing these actions.

"2024 must be the year of our economic recovery," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

In this sense, the Head of State underscored that works on Jorge Chavez International Airport's second runway and new control tower began last April.

She added that the trial period for users of Lima Metro Line 2's first stretch will begin on December 21.

Furthermore, Mrs. Boluarte specified that 14 projects have been awarded to date through public-private partnerships and projects in assets worth over US$2.3 billion.

"An additional US$8 billion is expected in 2024," she noted.

Moreover, the president indicated that an amount worth S/811 million (about US$217 million) was invested through the Works for Taxes mechanism, which includes a portfolio of 83 projects.

Chavimochic

The president reported that the Chavimochic III project had been abandoned in 2016, but the deadlines set in the government-to-government tender launched to execute the aforementioned work are being met. Two interested nations are participating in it.

"We estimate that construction could begin in the first quarter of 2024. We continue unlocking (public) works," she indicated.

Regional State Councils

The Head of state highlighted the creation of Regional State Councils and affirmed that it is a dialogue mechanism leading to concrete results. In total, three councils were held this year, in May, August, and December.

"We have granted a new level to the relationship between the Executive Branch and regional authorities, thanks to which we can articulate public policies and implement joint actions to prioritize investments and provide quality services to the population," she expressed.

The top official indicated that thanks to this mechanism, the unlocking of 41 projects for the country's development was achieved. Similarly, she mentioned that the objective is to build a similar working space with municipalities for 2024.

Among the reforms implemented within this framework, the creation of the National Infrastructure Authority (ANIN) stood out, through which large public works will be implemented to close infrastructure gaps nationwide and which will allow for the execution of high-impact works.

The president also affirmed that all these steps in favor of democratic stability, governability, and development would not have been possible without the coordinated effort by all Executive Branch sectors.

This event took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
