Peru's PM supports request for delegation of legislative powers

Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Tuesday attended a Congress Constitution Commission's meeting to support the Executive Branch's request for special powers to legislate on matters of public safety, disaster risk-Global El Niño management, meritocracy, as well as social infrastructure and quality of projects.

The Cabinet chief was accompanied by Ministers Vicente Romero (Interior), Daniel Maurate (Justice and Human Rights), Paola Lazarte (Transportation and Communications), and Alex Contreras (Economy and Finance).

On July 28, 2023, the Executive Branch presented the Bill No. 5642/2023-PE, which is intended to delegate powers to the Executive Branch in order to legislate on matters of public safety, disaster risk-Global El Niño management, meritocracy, as well as social infrastructure and quality of projects, for a period of 120 calendar days.

The working group's session chaired by Martha Moyano —a legislator from Fuerza Popular (Popular Force) party— began at 10:30 a.m. (local time) and took place at the parliamentary chamber.
