Peru's PM: Sinopharm vaccine acquisition based on technical, clinical information

Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Saturday affirmed that the purchase of Sinopharm laboratory vaccines was made based on technical and international clinical information.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official explained that the abovementioned data is related to clinical trials conducted in the United Arab Emirates, which resulted in an efficacy of 79.34% and stressed that other international studies support said figure.

"Do not misinform the population. The Transition and Emergency Government does not lie," she pointed out.

The Cabinet chief said it is false that vaccines are being delivered one thousand at a time, as a certain media outlet had claimed.

"300,000 (Sinopharm vaccines) arrived first, followed by 700,000, and other 50,000 from Pfizer last Wednesday. Yesterday, the President announced that 50,000 more will arrive next Wednesday, in addition to the 117,000 from the COVAX Facility," the Prime Minister indicated.

Furthermore,

Bermudez said it is false that Peru had received medical oxygen as a donation from Chile, stressing that the country had paid for that input.

"This Transition and Emergency Government is transparent; we do not lie or manipulate," she concluded.

Remarks were made during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima.
