Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Tuesday affirmed that the Government seeks the planned and territorial development of the central jungle by setting up a multisectoral commission to boost the improvement of indigenous peoples' quality of life.

During his speech in Satipo, the Cabinet chief indicated that President Dina Boluarte's administration keeps its word to support the development of various regions where diverse communities are settled.

"Through a multisectoral effort, we seek to improve the living conditions of the central jungle's population, seeking the territorial development of Junin, Pasco, Huanuco, Cusco, and Ayacucho regions; that is the objective, the planned, territorial development that meets their needs, that allocates a budget and puts them on the path of long-delayed development," he said.

Similarly, the government's spokesman indicated that indigenous peoples expressed their needs and demands at various dialogue roundtables, but that they will not remain just words. Instead, they will advance towards public policies that contribute to boosting said development.

"The intention is to propose mechanisms for the implementation of strategic measures, in the short, medium, and long terms, for the decentralized, sustainable, and comprehensive territorial development of the indigenous or native peoples affiliated to the Regional Association of Indigenous Peoples (ARPI) and the Regional Organization of Amazonian Nationalities from the Central Jungle (ORNASEC)," he added.

Support for Devida

Moreover, the Prime Minister recalled that he had been in charge of the State-run National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) between 2014 and 2016 —an institution that, in his view, has been facing some economic problems. Thus, it is necessary to make efforts to support it.

"From Satipo, I announce special support for Devida, so that it can carry out important work for this zone, as well as strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, and work with the entire population of the zone," he expressed.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Otarola was joined by Ministers Leslie Urteaga (Culture), Nelly Paredes (Agrarian Development-Irrigation), and Albina Ruiz (Environment), as well as nine deputy ministers.
