Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez was emphatic in stating that the Government was informed about the vaccination of ex-Foreign Affairs Minister Elizabeth Astete after the resignation of the latter.

"I reject the claim made by former Minister Astete. She did not inform us of her irregular vaccination, which we heard about on February 14, when she submitted her resignation to us," Bermudez said in a tweet on Monday.

The Cabinet chief pointed out that she never suggested that she (Astete) maintain confidentiality about something.

"(…) On the contrary, when we found out about this, we immediately accepted her resignation," she continued.

The Congressional Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations received the answers (to charges) of former Ministers Pilar Mazzetti (Health) and Elizabeth Astete (Foreign Affairs), regarding the complaint for the COVID-19 vaccination outside clinical trials.

According to Astete, she told the President of the Republic the reasons why she was considering to be vaccinated, and then, she coordinated the completion of such procedure with Cayetano Heredia University.

For her part, Mazzetti claimed that her inoculation was a strictly personal decision.
