Peru's Minister: Aim is to comprehensively work on agricultural development

15:56 | Lima, Jun. 16.

Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister Andres Alencastre on Thursday stressed the importance of performing comprehensive work that involves all agricultural sector actors and taking general decisions to embark on specific projects in every agricultural region of the country.

"We have presented a general idea to take specific measures. We must work on the sense of belonging in the Macro North, Macro Center, Macro South, and Macro East regions, in such a way that we can broaden the dialogue with the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and regional governors so as to coordinate the budget allocated to the agricultural sector managed by these authorities," he commented.

Alencastre remarked that the demands from farmers' organizations will not only be received, but will also be addressed in a macro-regional manner.

Therefore —he said— the ministerial teams will be properly organized to address the general issues affecting a country of mountains.

The government official affirmed that there is not enough time to review all individual requests made by the different agricultural sector actors.

"There are 1,890 districts, 192 provinces, and 25 regional governments. If the country is somewhat decentralized, representation will be in force at an intermediate level, acting as a conveyor belt," Alencastre explained.

"We must organize our executing units so that they can serve in a more committed way," he added.
