Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez has reported that the value of monthly exports and imports recorded in July this year surpasses pre-pandemic levels.
"This is the result of better prices in international markets and the recovery of economic activity, which had been affected by the measures taken to control the spread of COVID-19," Sanchez said during his presentation before the Congress' Budget Commission.
According to the government official, total exports are expected to grow 30% by the end of this year.
It should be noted that, only in July 2021, exports amounted to US$4.029 billion, up by 12.3% compared to the same month last year (US$3.588 billion).
Non-traditional sales
Additionally, Sanchez mentioned that non-traditional exports are projected to grow 24%.
The metallurgical and textile sectors will stand out in this case, due to a greater dynamism in the rate of growth of foreign sales.
However, he noted that farming accounts for about 45% of exports of value-added products.
