Peru's Interior Minister Willy Huerta on Monday affirmed that the special team of the National Police (PNP) supporting the Special Team of Prosecutors Against Corruption of Power will not be dismantled but strengthened.

In this regard, he remarked that the police team will not be dismantled and that the four senior officers that make it up will continue in their positions.

"Precisely, my sector has asked the National Police to strengthen this team," the minister said at a press conference.

Likewise, Huerta pointed out that Colonel Harvey Colchado —a member of the PNP special team— has not been removed from it.

He explained that the intelligence and investigation work is very particular, and that is why the police high command stipulated that said team had be led by Franco Moreno Panta, the head of the High Complexity Investigations Division (Diviac).

Moreover, the government official noted that his main concern as head of the Interior sector is in the frontal fight against insecurity.

"We have to work on that, on the well-being of Peruvian citizens," he underscored.
